How Cooking Works--Approximations and Gardening

*Sit down about when it's time to start cooking dinner. Page through recipes. Discover Monte Cristo Sandwiches. on Cooking Light.

*Look at the list of ingredients.

*Look in the fridge.

*Ponder for a moment.

Ok.

So I have sliced beef
American cheese slices (Why?)
Whole Wheat bread
eggs
Milk
Mango Jam
Honey mustard.

Follow the recipe with the ingredients on hand rather than the ingredients in the fridge.

This means that you make

Almost-but-not-quite Monte-Cristo Sandwiches

2 eggs are whisked with milk
The bread gets spread with the honey mustard
Sliced cheese goes on
Sliced Beef goes on (except for the vegetarian; he gets cooked meatless burger)
The sandwiches are cooked in their pans
Mango jam is spooned on top.

Dinner is served.

On the other hand, for the side dish, I did have all the ingredients for an Heirloom Tomato Salad with Herbs and Capers. Great White tomatoes, Brandy Boy tomatoes, red cherry tomatoes, Sun Sugar Tomatoes, and fresh basil and mint... Mmmmmmm.
